Baby's First Bucket Shower (and proposal!)
Somehow I lucked out and I am 3 for 3 in getting to live in some of the most beautiful places in the world. Tarrafal is literally one of the most incredible places I have ever been (check photos for proof!) and I am both incredibly grateful and incredibly sad to live by the ocean because it brings me so much happiness but I can't swim:(
Yes we did in fact run out of water this week so we had to take bucket showers. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought and I take cold showers here anyway so it wasn't that much different. And I'm pretty sure the water pressure from me pouring the cup on myself was stronger than our shower head so maybe I should make it a regular thing! The real blessing is that we only didn't have water for a little over 24 hours which is really nice considering that the last time this house lost water they didn't have it for 6 days. Yikes!
Me and Sister Cluff were sitting outside the church this week and Sister Cluff said "Oh no it's the guy that proposed to me let's hide" Unfortunately despite our best efforts, he found us and came over and started talking to us. I was just letting Sister Cluff lead the conversation while I looked for our friend to come for our lesson. I joined the conversation and all the sudden he started talking to me. This is how it went (I had to double check with Sis C after)
Him: "I really want to work and have a wife"
Me: "Oh you want a wife?"
Him: "Yes. You are very beautiful. Will you marry me?"
Me: "No. I do not want a husband"
And then he kept talking to me but I told him I didn't understand português and our friend showed up for the lesson so it gave us an excuse to leave so s/o to Lizzi and s/o to the gift of tongues for helping me decline his proposal. Very bold of him to do that right in front of Sister Cluff who had declined his offer weeks prior.
We were in a lesson this week and while we were sitting there, my feet starting hurting a little and I was like "dang I must've gotten bitten by something" and then as the lesson went on my feet hurt so bad it felt like they were on fire so I kept moving them around and itching them and I was just dying in the middle of Sister Cluff teaching about the Plan of Salvation. We finally finished the lesson and when we walked outside I counted 11 mosquito bites all over my feet😃 I hope that mosquito had a nice dinner but mom please send me bug spray asap as possible.
Me and Sister Cluff are very similar in the way that we both have strong desires to workout and eat healthy but sometimes do a bad job at following through with those desires. Therefore, we have made a rule that we are only allowed to eat one small treat a day. This is mostly so we don't sit down and eat whole Milka chocolate bars in one sitting like we did last week. Unfortunately we broke our rule today and ate 5 cookies each because we decided we needed a reward after cleaning out our fridge, which was honestly justified, that thing was a beast! So we will have to restart our goal tomorrow.
We work a lot with the members here because the ward is so small so I've made a lot of friends from that and they all try to help me with my português and I help them with their English so it's a nice trade off. The language is progressing but not as much as I'd like so I told Sis Cluff that we need to speak less English which I'm sad about because I love English and I haven't learned how to do a British/português accent yet so that's probably why.
Our mission president challenged our whole mission to read the Book of Mormon before Christmas and I had started it probably 3 days before he said that so thank goodness for that timing!! It's been so good to read it again though because I get more and more out of it the more I read it and I know with surety that it is the word of God and that the words in it are true! The Book of Mormon is the best self help book you could ever read so if any of you need help or guidance in your life, I promise you that you can find it in the Book of Mormon. And if anyone wants to try and finish it before Christmas with me, please do!!!
I love you all soooooooooooooooo much and I hope that you're all happy and healthy!!<3
