House hunters, bucket showers, ocean baptisms, parties, and crepes!!

This week was so fun and awesome and busy and crazy and chances are, it'll be like that the rest of the transfer. Rip to full study days but I am having the time of my life!!! We got to go to 2 baptisms on Saturday!! Because our area is so small and we don't have a full chapel, they had the baptisms in these little tide pools by the ocean. We all piled into the back of 2 hiluxes (just trucks with benches) and all rode over together. After the baptisms were over we had a big ward activity at the beach which was so fun. I am so blessed to live and serve here. God is so good. Yesterday it was Sister Cluffs birthday so we planned this biggggg giant FHE (party) for her with all of our friends. I made a cake and almost had a mental breakdown because our oven was made in the 1400s but!! It all turned out thank goodness and everybody loved it. While I was making the cake I was singing Bad Habit and Sister Cluff didn't even know what song it was hahah so that was weird. We didn...

If Gordon Ramsey went to Cabo Verde

This week was fun but nothing really exciting happened so let's take some time and do a little update on the food situation here in Cabo Verde. I think I've been here for long enough now to understand the staples. We really don't get fed by members a lot but when we do, this is what we're given (I'll be rating all of them on a scale of 1-5): -Cachupa: basically just a stew/chili/I don't even know of corn, beans, tuna, and some other mystery items. Our district leader from CV made it for us and it was actually fire. 4.6/5 for this specific cahupa. I have yet to try another kind so when I do I'll lyk. -Couscous (pronounced koosh koosh): imagine the densest bread you've ever had in your life and then take away all the flavor and that's what it is. They like to put it in a bowl and pour milk on it sometimes. 4/5 one of my favorites because it feels relatively safe for me to eat -Bolo (cake): They make cakes a little bit different here but theyre sooooo...

I am going to throw the best Halloween party Cabo Verde has ever seen if it's the last thing I do

Image
Yes you heard it here first everyone, old habits die hard! Me and Sister Cluff are throwing a Halloween party (FHE) tonight for all of our member friends and friends we're teaching it's gonna be crraaaazzzzyyy. Which means we're gonna play games and listen to Halloween and have a spiritual thought but still!!! We spent all of our money on a ton of candy so hopefully people come and it's not like our English class we had earlier this week (nobody showed up)😃 And yes Cabo Verde does not officially celebrate Halloween but they will tonight! Jokes on me last week for making a big deal out of not having water for one day because this week we didn't have it for 4 days! I will admit that bucket showers get less and less fun the more you take them but alas we persevered. When we walked into our house on Saturday and had water we were so stoked so we said a gratitude prayer and then cleaned everything and did lots of laundry hahaha. I've been in Cabo Verde for less th...

Baby's First Bucket Shower (and proposal!)

Image
Somehow I lucked out and I am 3 for 3 in getting to live in some of the most beautiful places in the world. Tarrafal is literally one of the most incredible places I have ever been (check photos for proof!) and I am both incredibly grateful and incredibly sad to live by the ocean because it brings me so much happiness but I can't swim:(  Yes we did in fact run out of water this week so we had to take bucket showers. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought and I take cold showers here anyway so it wasn't that much different. And I'm pretty sure the water pressure from me pouring the cup on myself was stronger than our shower head so maybe I should make it a regular thing! The real blessing is that we only didn't have water for a little over 24 hours which is really nice considering that the last time this house lost water they didn't have it for 6 days. Yikes! Me and Sister Cluff were sitting outside the church this week and Sister Cluff said "Oh no it'...
